Könitz was founded in 1909 as a porcelain factory with four circular kilns. The first products - cups, mugs, bowls, tea sieves etc. - were mainly shipped to England. The company already had to expand because of the strong demand and became known as Könitz Porcelain Factory Gebrüder Metzel. During the following decade many new and international markets were attained through a modified company concept. Könitz banks on a strong band assortment in retail, customized and promotional mugs, as well as mugs as souvenir items.

With its manifold and unusual collections, Könitz continues to call attention to itself. Highlights of the collection over the years , to name a few, have been the 1993 Safari collection, the 1996 introduction of art motifs by Andy Warhol, as well as the special introduction of the brand Coffee Bar by Könitz in 2002. Though Könitz is consistent presence at numerous national and international trade fairs, the company enjoys increasing stature in the marketplace.
